Kart racing can be the best thing ever. But sometimes it can also be really, really not.
This time everything was going just perfect. ALL day perfect.
I was the fastest in qualifying. I led every single lap in both my heats and finished P1 in both of them. Then in the final race I was winning that too! Everything was going exactly how I wanted it to go.
Then on the very last lap my battery came undone and I had to pull over. Just like that. My team ran over really fast and got me going again but I’d lost too much time and I finished second.
I felt so sad. The kind of sad that felt heavy. Because I did everything right and it still went wrong and that didn’t make sense. But I’m learning that sometimes things happen, and you have to find a way to not let the frustration stay. By the time we got to the trophy presentation I felt okay again. Actually, I felt happy. My friend beat me to first place and even though I know I was faster than him, seeing how happy he was with his trophy made me happy too. That’s a good feeling. He deserved first place because he tried so hard and didn’t give up. Every lap I think he got faster, so well done my new friend!
I think that race is one I want to forget. But what I do want to remember is that I set the fastest lap record at Stretton in a bambino go-kart. My time was 38.7 seconds! We’re waiting for it to be official, but I know I did it.
So I’m still winning the championship and I just keep getting faster. And that’s pretty cool.
